Media Releases Criticism of Nutricia's advertising should not mislead parents
Nutricia advises consumers not to be misled by discussion this week of Nutricia's advertising which wrongly alleged its Karicare range of toddler formula products is high in sugar.
Karicare products do not contain added table sugar (sucrose). The labeled levels of sugars in Karicare products are comparable to standard cows milk.
As an example, Pura Tone brand no fat cows milk contains 6.2 g/100ml of sugar, comparable to Karicare Toddler Gold which contains 6.3 g/100ml. Other comparisons are made in the table below.
A parent group has incorrectly suggested Karicare Gold "is high in sugar." This well intentioned group, who seek to reduce childhood obesity, have inadvertently misled consumers with this incorrect claim.
Nutricia values feedback from its consumers, and is constantly monitoring its marketing to reflect community expectations. Nutricia has taken the feedback of its advertising on board, but seeks to correct the misleading claims made about Karicare Gold's sugar levels.
The key ingredients of Karicare Gold are lactose, vitamins, minerals, and omega LCPs. LCPs (Long Chain Polyunsaturated) are found in breast milk, and are important during infancy for the proper development of the eyes, the brain and the nerves.
